| Fields of research/activity: |
Starting from 1974, following the oil crisis, the research activities in renewables has been initiated in ICPE. From this year on, New Energy Sources became a distinctive activity in our institute by creation, as a distinct department,
The activity of the Center New Energy Sources Laboratory (NESL).is focused mainly on solar energy, small wind turbines and R&D of the components for renewables with the declared target to offer as soon as possible pilot projects and applications for large scale implementation.
Before 1989, ICPE-NESL had the leading position in solar and wind energy in Romania, official partner in joint projects financed and organized at national and international level.
After the opening to Europe from 1989, ICPE-NESL was involved in PECO,JOULE THERMIE, INCO-COP and FP5 in total 15 Projects, finding new opportunities to improve the overall activity.
The main objectives are:
to develop system components for renewable energy applications;
to improve the quality of systems design and to minimise the price of the produced energy;
to develop small scale production;
to implement pilot and demonstrative projects.
An important direction is Grid-connected PV and solar-thermal systems like
“Intelligent and ecological house” , PV-wind combined systems. Building integration of solar thermal and photovoltaic systems. regarding solar house architectural elements and designs and energy efficiency .
Ather activities are:
Quality tests and in-field testing( as member of the National and IEC TC 82 PV Standard Committee):
o ICPE-NESL has the capability to carry in-field tests for systems and components for renewable energies, have three facilities for this kind of tests: to Agigea and Costinesti - on the Black Sea Coast, and to Anghelus-in the mountains.
Training in renewable energies. From 1993, ICPE-NESL (two times in collaboration with Romanian Agency for Energy Conservation), organised training courses.
Two annual international Conferences (‘Home High Tech” and “SWIC”)for market actors and end-users of renewables, are organised at our Agigea Test Site Facility.
